The John Keells English Day is an annual event organized as a platform for John Keells English Scholars of the preceding financial year to showcase their talents through performance of various items, build self-confidence and also interact with other scholars from various parts of the country. English Day 2016 was held on 30th August at the Bishop’s College Auditorium.
It featured drama performances and poetry recitals by students from various backgrounds, religions and races performed in front of a distinguished audience comprising Chief Guest Justice Mrs. Shiranee Tilakawardane, former judge of the Supreme Court SriLanka, Senior Management of John Keells Group, Gateway Group and a representation of invitees, school principals, teachers and parents.
This year too it was indeed an eventful evening and the scholars showcased their talents through various performances which included poems such as ”My Smartphone Isn’t Very Smart” and ”My violin” and plays such as ”The Necklace” and also an original script ”Our Mission”.
Jaffna branch won the 1st place in the poetry category while the Negombo branch became the runners up. The Ampara branch were the winners and Kurunegala branch were the runners up the in the drama category. The joint best performance winners are R.G.S Kavishka Jayawardhana from Kurunegala and T H Navodi Sapna from Ampara.
